About the App
"Cognitive Relaxation"
Lusitropy is an AI-powered educational platform for trainees and providers in pediatric cardiac anesthesia and congenital heart disease. It supports studying and case planning and lets you pose follow-up questions, and your learning plan is updated continuously with further recommendations. Lusitropy is not a replacement for clinical experience, formal training, or independent critical thinking.
Lusitropy is available as an iOS app and as a companion web experience at lusitropy.com. Account creation is optional: you may use the app anonymously, or create an account to sync your progress across devices and the web.
Key Features
My Learning Plan — Set your learner level to receive a more precise educational experience tailored to your training stage.
Review — Topic-based reading and practice questions, with difficulty suited to your learner type.
Guided Tutoring — Do you ever wish you could ask your textbook a question? Pediatric cardiac anesthesia concepts are complex and often overwhelming. Let the guided tutor walk you through topics and ask clarifying questions to dig deeper into difficult concepts.
Case Stories — Log and plan for your upcoming cases. Take it a step further by generating story preambles or moving the discussion to the tutor to dive deeper. Case Stories must use fictional or de-identified educational scenarios only.
Daily Insights — AI-generated educational content summaries to keep concepts fresh.
Progress — Your progress is always a tap away. Track completion, strengths, weaknesses, and long-lost knowledge, and find recommendations for refreshers or areas of improvement.
Simulation — Educational scenario practice for rehearsing decision-making in a study setting.
Advocating AI Safety — While the scope of use for AI is ever-evolving, Lusitropy aims to provide a measured approach to AI in education. This tool augments, but does not replace, your cardiac curriculum. All content and conversation are moderated by experts to help ensure accuracy. If you have created an account, you may be notified of updates in content or if we feel you have been taught something in error.
Education Use and Limitations
Not a Replacement for Clinical Experience. Lusitropy is designed as a tool to enhance your existing educational model. It does not replace formal training experiences, clinical exposure to patients, or professional medical judgment. Lusitropy's content is based on medical literature, expert opinion, and general knowledge present in AI model training. While expert opinion hopes to steer your conversation in the right direction, generative AI can be inaccurate — hence the need for safety and careful evaluation of data. All clinical decisions must be made by qualified professionals in line with institutional policies and current standards of care.
Protected Health Information. Lusitropy must never be used to enter or process protected health information (PHI) or any personally identifiable patient data. Never enter patient names, medical record numbers, dates of birth, or other identifiers. Such use violates this policy and may result in account action. You are responsible for complying with institutional privacy policies, data protection laws, and applicable regulations (for example, HIPAA in the United States).
Not a Medical Device. Lusitropy is not regulated as a medical device and is not designed or validated for clinical use, emergency care, or time-critical decisions. It is an adjunctive study aid only.
By using Lusitropy, you acknowledge and agree that it is an educational tool only and not for clinical use from any perspective — diagnostic, therapeutic, procedural, or operational.
AI Safe Usage
About Guided Tutoring
The guided tutor is Lusitropy's AI-powered educational assistant, built using an LLM (large language model) and a growing database of expert-curated knowledge. It is designed to support your learning in pediatric cardiac anesthesia and congenital heart disease by answering questions, explaining concepts, and discussing topics alongside the app's reading, questions, and case content. Responses are tailored to your learner type to better match your level. The guided tutor is a study aid only and is not part of clinical care or decision-making.
Limitations and Risks of AI
Generative AI poses well-known risks in medicine and medical education. The tutor may produce inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated information; generate plausible-sounding but false content ("hallucinations"); reflect biases or gaps in training data; and lack awareness of the latest guidelines, institutional protocols, or local practice standards. AI output is not peer-reviewed, not validated for clinical use, and should never be relied on for diagnosis, treatment, or patient care decisions. You are responsible for verifying important information against authoritative sources and for using the tutor only as an educational supplement under appropriate supervision.
Educational Use Only
The tutor is for educational use only and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment recommendations. It is not a substitute for formal training, supervised clinical experience, or professional judgment. All clinical decisions must be made by qualified healthcare professionals in accordance with institutional policies and current standards of care.
Privacy and Protected Health Information
Conversations with the tutor may be processed for accuracy and product improvement. The tutor must never be used to enter or process protected health information (PHI) or any personally identifiable patient data. Never enter patient names, medical record numbers, dates of birth, or other identifiers. Such use violates this policy and may result in account action. You are responsible for complying with institutional privacy policies, data protection laws, and applicable regulations (for example, HIPAA in the United States).
By using the tutor, you acknowledge that:
- The tutor is for education only and must not be used for diagnosis, treatment, or clinical decision-making; it does not replace supervised training or professional medical judgment.
- The tutor's responses can be wrong, incomplete, or outdated and may not reflect current guidelines or your institution's protocols.
- You will verify important information with authoritative sources and not rely on the tutor for clinical or patient care.
- You will never enter protected health information (PHI) or any patient-identifiable data into the tutor.
The tutor is powered by OpenAI's technology, which is continually updated to reflect improvements in accuracy, safety, and utility. The tutor's development and deployment are guided by a commitment to responsible AI use in healthcare education, aligned with the principles set forth by the AAMC, AMA, and ACCME. Lusitropy prioritizes privacy with no ads, no tracking for advertising, and no sale of user data.
